This guide focuses on preparing an inquiry; synthesis feasibility, acceptance criteria and delivery arrangements require project-specific confirmation.
Describe the research requirement
A custom inquiry may be useful when the catalog does not contain the required sequence, modification or quantity. Explain the intended research application and identify which specifications are essential. Separate requirements from preferences so that a feasibility discussion can address possible alternatives. Submitting a request does not mean that the project has been accepted.
Provide an unambiguous sequence
- Include the complete sequence, its direction and the notation used. An internal project name is not a complete specification.
- Identify terminal requirements and the positions of modifications, nonstandard residues or other structural features. Describe any required connectivity clearly.
- Add a specification version and date. If an attachment, sequence string and structural drawing disagree, establish which document controls the assessment before requesting a final quotation.
Specify quantity and acceptance criteria
State the total quantity, requested aliquots, delivery form and any preference for staged delivery. Describe the research quality requirements and purification targets in terms that can be reviewed, rather than using only a phrase such as high purity. Include any relevant handling or solubility requirements. If a criterion is undecided, mark it for discussion instead of allowing an assumption to become part of the order.
Agree the batch documentation
List the documentation you would like to receive, such as a batch-specific certificate of analysis, method information or agreed analytical plots. Ask what each test is intended to establish and which records will support acceptance. A sample report illustrates a format; it cannot replace documentation for the delivered batch.
Review the quotation against the request
- Check the contact details, institution and intended research application.
- Match the sequence, modifications, quantity and form to the correct specification version.
- Distinguish mandatory requirements from negotiable preferences.
- Discuss whether an initial evaluation quantity is appropriate before deciding on a larger quantity.
- Confirm the quoted scope, analytical work and any arrangements still awaiting agreement.
Sequence complexity, modifications, quantity and testing scope all belong in the project discussion. A general service description does not establish that a particular sequence can be delivered. Review the written quotation before proceeding, and request a revised assessment whenever the specification changes.
